As many of us already know, hit-and-runs have become an epidemic in the greater Los Angeles area. However, in an even more cowardly twist to the typical script, the culprit of a deadly hit-and-run Saturday morning fled his own car, leaving his passenger, who was ejected during the crash, to die on the side of the road.
According to police, the car was going northbound on Magnolia Avenue shortly before 3 a.m. It then veered into the southbound lane, hit a wall at a mobile home park, and then struck a light pole. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The passenger, identified as 25-year-old Isaias Tang, was pronounced dead at the scene when police arrived. Investigators are still looking for the driver, a white male with long hair, and encourage anyone with information on the accident to contact Westminster police at (714) 898-3315.
While change is not coming quickly, it looks like city officials are doing whatever they can to more involve the public to help solve cases like this. Detective Felix Padilla of the Los Angeles Police Department’s traffic division thinks, “If we let the public know that these crimes are so frequent that we need their assistance, once they grasp that concept, you know, they will be able to help us more. The more they help us, the more cases we’ll solve.” Just last month city officials announced a plan to increase the reward for information leading to the capture of hit-and-run suspects.
