Anaheim is home to Disneyland, the Happiest Place on Earth. But for some drivers, motorcyclists and pedestrians, things aren’t so happy – especially for those who have been in a car accident. An injury, death, or loss as a result of an accident can take a long time to recover from physically, mentally, or financially. Cohn and Swartzon, Anaheim personal attorneys, have looked at the data of some of the intersections in Anaheim that are not only familiar to you, but are the scene of numerous injury-related accidents. Here’s a look at data from Anaheim car accidents:

Anaheim Car Accidents
Our team studied 2021 data, the most recent data released as part of the 2024 Transportation Injury Mapping System (TIMS) project by the Safe Transportation Research and Education Center, University of California, Berkeley.
In 2021, there were 1,270 accidents that involved at least one person injured on roads or freeways passing through Anaheim. That total accounts for more than three per day.
- 6 of those accidents were fatal.
- 54 of those accidents saw severe injuries.
- 367, or 29%, were categorized as having other visible injuries – not deemed severe.
- 843, or 66%, reported some pain – representing the largest percentage of victims here.
Of course, what’s not accounted for in these totals was the pain that didn’t exist moments after the crash. These people indicated nothing wrong at the time of the crash. There’s a very strong likelihood that some of them developed pain hours later, the next morning, or even weeks and months later when they noticed an irregularity within their body while doing another activity.
“Most people don’t realize that after the adrenaline rush wears off post-crash, the physical pain can start to surface. It’s important that they don’t rule out injury within minutes of a car crash because the impact and injuries aren’t often felt for hours or days.”
Jason Cohn, co-founder and partner, Cohn and Swartzon.

Type of Anaheim Car Crashes
If you’ve wondered what are the most common types of Anaheim car accidents, we’ve pulled the data to keep you informed.
Here are the numbers by percentage of different accident types in Anaheim for 2021:
- Head-on 53 or 4.17%
- Sideswipe 164 or 12.91%
- Rear End 481 or 37.87%
- Broadside 299 or 23.54%
- Hit an Object 175 or 13.78%
- Overturned 27 or 2.13%
- Pedestrian-involved 67 or 5.28%
- Other – 4 – 1%
Looking at these totals, we see that an alarming amount of crashes are head-on, nearly 5 per month. We also see rear-end crashes, the most common, only account for 37% of the accidents. Broadside accidents were the second most common, and oftentimes, we see those are the result of one of the drivers running a red light. The point is that accidents can come from any and all directions – facing you, from behind, or from the side.
“What people need to realize is that the effects from different types of impact can manifest in certain ways. Some victims recognize pain immediately; others can discover it down the road. They might be doing something that is pretty common and has always been pain-free, and then they ask themselves, “why am I hurting now?”
Saar Swartzon, co-founder and partner, Cohn and Swartzon.
When Do Anaheim Car Accidents Occur?
Do you know when you are most vulnerable to getting into an accident? The 2021 Anaheim data shows us that the hours between three and six p.m. are when the highest concentration of accidents occur. The next sets of noon to three p.m., six to nine p.m., and nine to midnight make up the next highest accident totals.
You will also note that the overnight hours on the weekends are especially high compared to those same hours midweek. It is also a time when there are more suspected drivers under the influence on the road.

151 Passengers accounted for 11.83% of the injured parties. It is also important to mention that 72 pedestrians and 67 bicyclists were injured in those crashes, something to consider if you are walking or riding a bicycle on Anaheim city streets.
