Cohn & Swartzon, P.C. Supports the Lucas Lilley Foundation

On April 4th and 5th, Ashley Stewart, the daughter of Cohn & Swartzon, P.C.'s senior paralegal, Linda Chapman, participated in a 200-mile running relay to help raise funds for the Lucas Lilley Foundation. The Ragnar Relay started in Huntington Beach and moved down the coast to Embarcadero Marina Park South in San Diego. Our firm was very moved by Ashley's efforts and donated to show our support for this wonderful cause.

The Lucas Lilley Foundation aims to "raise private donations and create partnerships between organizations, individuals, and corporate neighbors in order to support families with children affected by brain injuries." For this reason, the team at Cohn & Swartzon, P.C. was more than happy to contribute to this worthwhile cause. All in all, the foundation was able to raise over $30,000, making Ragnar 2014 a huge success.

As an alumnus of Whittier Law School, attorney Jason Cohn volunteered at the school in February 2014 to provide mock interviews to first and second-year students. In January of 2013, Mr. Cohn had the opportunity to lecture to students and recent graduates on the topic of solo practitioners and small law firms. Mr. Cohn was glad to provide his insight, advice, and to answer any questions regarding the advantages and disadvantages of running a solo practice or small law firm. In January of 2013, Whittier Law School selected Jason Cohn as a finalist for Lawyer of the Year for Whittier Law School for 2013. We look forward to March when Whittier Law School will be announcing the winner of this highly sought after award. Cohn & Swartzon, P.C. will keep you posted when we hear the news of the results!

National Teen Driver Safety Week

Attorneys Cohn & Swartzon recently offered valuable advice to all teenage drivers and the parents that allow them to get behind the wheel, on the radio in recognition of National Teen Driver Safety Week—which took place on October 14-20. Since the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that the leading cause of death for teens between the ages of 15 and 20 is motor vehicle accidents in the United States, they thought that it was important to educate the general public about certain liability laws in California. Most parents do not realize that they can be held liable for the damage that their child causes while out on the road if they give them permission to drive, knowing that they have a history of being involved in traffic accidents or of driving under the influence. For this reason, Cohn & Swartzon, P.C. thought that it was important to participate in promoting the message of National Teen Driver Safety Week. To listen for yourself, click below.

The Gabriel Nunez Fundraiser

On New Year's Day 2011, a heroic seventeen-year-old Orange County boy sustained severe traumatic brain injuries after being hit in a pedestrian accident. That afternoon, Gabriel and his mother Veronica decided to walk to the local grocery store to purchase popcorn, soda, and to rent a video as many families enjoy doing. As the mother and son left the small rented bedroom they share, they entered a crosswalk on the way to the grocery store. At that moment, Gabriel suddenly observed a car approaching the intersection. Gabriel shouted to his mother, and just as she turned around he pushed her out of the way, saving her from being struck by the oncoming vehicle.

Unfortunately, Gabriel was not so fortunate. The teenage boy was struck violently, slamming his head into the hard asphalt. Subsequently, Gabriel was rushed to the trauma center where he was subjected to eight separate brain surgeries where he nearly lost his life on several occasions.

Gabriel's mother Veronica, an employee of a small local grocery store, stayed by her son's side through each and every operation, unable to afford a car, she endured long bus rides, two hours each way to be by her son's side at the hospital. Unfortunately, due to the mother's economic hardship, she was not unable to manage to transport her son to and from his medical appointments, nor did she have the means to pay for her son's treatment or recovery.

As a family-oriented law firm, Gabriel's attorneys took the seriousness of his situation to heart. Due to the nature of his case they organized a fundraiser to benefit the heroic young man who did not deserve the dire circumstances that had afflicted him and his family. On Thursday, August 25th, 2011, attorneys Jason Cohn and Saar Swartzon, of Cohn & Swartzon, P.C. held a fundraiser to help raise funds for Gabriel's recovery. On June 25th, 2011, Gabriel received a rare commendation from the Buena Park Police Department for his heroic actions to save his mother from the oncoming vehicle. Due to the collaborative efforts of his attorneys at Cohn & Swartzon, P.C., they were able to raise over $30,000 from donations and support throughout the community to help him through the aftermath of this tragic accident.

Cohn & Saar Swartzon Attend Launch Party for Doctora Ana Magazine

Attorneys Jason Cohn & Saar Swartzon were honored to attend the launch party for Dr. Ana Nogales's new magazine, Doctora Ana Magazine. Dr. Ana, a psychologist felt that there weren't any real resources on the market that were directed at the advancement of Latina women. Because of this, she decided to come up with an idea for a magazine that was aimed at the "health" of Latina women.

Dr. Nogales asked attorneys Cohn and Swartzon to join her in her quest to help encourage the growth and advancement of Latina women everywhere by contributing articles to her magazine. Jason Cohn and Saar Swartzon were more than happy to contribute articles to Doctora Ana Magazine, knowing that they would help empower women through education. Drawing from their collaborative efforts with Dr. Nogales, they are confident that Latina women can benefit from their advice and contributions to the innovative magazine for Hispanic women.

  • I am very happy with the level of service Cohn & Swartzon provided!

“I am very happy with the level of service Cohn & Swartzon provided me with during my time of need. I truly did not expect my insurance to cover my legal fees, but I am sure that Attorney Cohn and Attorney Swartzon wrote a great letter to them. I hope that I don't need an attorney ever again; but if I did, I would go back to Cohn & Swartzon. And I would definitely refer my family and friends.”

  • From my personal experience, I can refer Cohn & Swartzion to anybody!

“I was involved in an auto accident earlier this year. A friend of mine referred me to attorney Saar Swartzon at Cohn & Swartzon, a Professional Law Corporation. I met with Mr. Swartzon and his senior paralegal Linda Chapman to discuss my accident. We discussed the accident, the pain I was in and how my doctor was going to submit a request for physical therapy to my insurance company, which could take up to two weeks to obtain approval I was told. I informed Mr. Swartzon that I had previously had cervical surgery in 2012 and how it took almost a month to receive approval for physical therapy from my insurance company and make my first appointment with the physical therapist they approved me for. With the pain I suffered from the whiplash caused by the accident, I could not wait that long. Mr. Swartzon referred me to a physician that he knew so I could be evaluated and obtain written approval immediately for physical therapy. Mr. Swartzon also referred me to a physical therapy location near my work, which took me in immediately. During my treatments, I did not have to worry about anything. Linda Chapman handled all of the incoming bills that I received incurred by the accident as well as all of the correspondence from the insurance companies requesting updates. Their legal assistant Renee Bushman did a great job following up on the information requested by Linda about the other party to help with my case. I was always kept informed on the status of my case and always received quick responses to my emails. Due to the outstanding work that Saar, Linda and Renee had done, my case settled quickly and I am once again pain free. Now I know why my friend referred me to Saar Swartzon at Cohn & Swartzon and I can honestly say from my personal experience that I can refer them to anybody reading my review as well as anybody I know who is involved in an auto accident.”

  • Cohn & Swartzon fought hard for me in court

“When I first met with Cohn & Swartzon, they explained to me that I had a difficult case; but because of my severe injuries, they were willing to help. Initially, the insurance did not offer much; but after Cohn & Swartzon fought hard for me in court, I received over a 6 figure settlement and also had my surgery paid for.”
